Human Factors & Work Design is an ergonomics consultancy run by the Principal Consultant, Rod Graves (previously part time Honorary Professor in Ergonomics, School of the Built Environment, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh).

Since 1992, the company has provided practical ergonomics support in a number of key areas to optimise work system performance, health and safety for clients.

Services  include consultancy, research, training and litigation.

  • Consultancy support is from within Human Factors & Work Design or with associate(s) managed from within Human Factors & Work Design.  
  • The research capability can be provided either independently or in conjunction with academic partners (for example Heriot-Watt University).
  • Training, covering topics such as manual handling, Upper Limb Disorders, risk management and basic ergonomics design is provided on-site, or at an agreed location. 
  • Litigation support is provided for a number of legal firms throughout the United Kingdom, and there is familiarity with the Scottish and English legal systems and the respective High Courts.

The client base is broad and covers sectors such as banking, manufacturing, transport, the NHS and heavy industry.
